NAMIBIA 2009
DAY 4: 28th June
Fish River Canyon & Luderitz

DAY 4:  Destination: Luderitz
Our morning starts on the edge of the Fish River Canyon, where we gaze 550 meters into this magnificent geological phenomenon, the second largest of its kind on earth. Thereafter we travel down the Great Escarpment and into the stretched plains of the Namib Desert, later giving way to the shifting dunes of the Prohibited Diamond Area. Here we visit Diaz’ Cross before doing a tour through Lüderitz and checking into our hotel
The Nest Hotel is situated on the beachfront in Lüderitz. A private beach, swimming pool, sauna and solarium offer relaxation while the oyster bar on the sundeck and the Penguin Restaurant boast excellent cuisine.

Suzy cuddles up on the coach - Carol is relieved that the Fish River Canyon is only 10 km away.....On the coach there was time to read, reflect on the past day's activities, and catch up with friends.
The Fish River Canyon in its glory = what a treat to see early in the morning.  Albeit so very cold - the wind was freezing.  We stopped at Aus for lunch.  What a contrast - a few returned their calamari and salad (N$65)as they felt it a total rip-off - value wise. Others who had the Prego roll (N$55) could have shared this with someone else,  they were so huge!  Feast or famine!  Dieter and June decided it was time to sit on the steps of the hotel and do some begging - to help us with lunches for the rest of the trip.

The view from Diaz Cross and our beautiful overnight stop - the Nest Hotel with their welcoming drink - always great after the long trip.  The Namibians really know how to treat you!

Suzy reflects on the peace of the lagoon at the Nest Hotel.  The little chef encouraged us to buy his fresh oysters.  David didn't struggle to enjoy his crayfish.

Linda all smiles as she begins to tuck in to her crayfish - although after wading though the top layer found it iced up inside! Ann Buxton has 'found' her camera in her luggage after discovering it was missing from her room. Susan sneaks a banana from the buffet table 'for the road'

Like all great travelers, I have seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen
