DAY 1:
Destination:
Windhoek
A
mid morning start for most of us. Shuttle
pick-up started at 10h30 (Linda wasn't
charmed at being picked up first and taking
the scenic route to the airport!).
Our group comprised 15 passengers,10 ladies
and 5 men! |

Great anticipation and excitement at the thought
of 9 days away to places most of us had never
been to before. As we went through
customs we received a call to say that as
President Dmitry Medvedev was in town
and had commandeered all the rooms at the
Safari Court Hotel, we could no longer
have our promised accommodation. However
we were quickly re-routed to the Kalahari
Sands Hotel in downtown Windhoek.
Unfortunately, due to a bungle on the part of
the shuttle company assigned to collect first
arrival Suzy from the airport, she had to repack
her case and move in with us. |
|
The
welcome sign of the Hosea Kutako
International Airport coupled with our
driver / guide Dieter's smile and our coach
waiting outside said: - "Hey guys we are finally
here". Norman & Ann (ex Benoni)
surprised us all by recognizing and naming all
participants, having memorized their photos ex
the Cape Town meet & greet, which they couldn't
attend. |
|
|
|
A welcome drink in the bar at the
Kalahari Sands got everyone
together - to share their enthusiasm for
what was to come! |
|
|
|
Trish put on the glamour
for the first evening whilst Suzy
and Linda were delighted to be
together again - good friends who
regularly travel around the world
together. The buffet was delicious
as Brian can testify. |

Trips away are special times – so very good for our souls.
"You've got to be careful if you
don't know where you're going, because you might not get there". |
