DAY 3:
Destination:
Gondwana Collection - Canon Lodge
We travel south through expansive rocky
plains, visiting the unique Quiver
Tree forest. Nestled amongst huge
dolerite boulders, some stacked so
mysteriously that it seems impossible that
they were created by natural forces, it
awards us with magnificent photographic
opportunities.
Caņon
Lodge is located in Gondwana
Caņon Park, only 20 km from
the Fish River Canyon. The 25
en-suite chalets are thatched and built from
natural stone. Nestled against massive
granite boulders, you will feel that you are
living in the lap of nature. Linger at the
restaurant and take a closer look at the
carefully arranged decoration from the
pioneering days of farming. For exploring
the park on your own the choice is between
horse, four-wheel drive and walking stick.
Or just relax with a book on our terrace
shaded by trees or at the swimming pool.

What
a treat when Dieter stopped and put this huge
map on the side of the coach explaining our
proposed route. We traveled vast distances
in Namibia - over 3000 kms in the nine days -
but what a revelation the Namibian landscape is
- something different to see at every turn -
including the Quiver Trees in flower. |
|
Ann S taught Ann B how
to hug a tree - they pronounced the exercise
satisfying . The boulder formation ("giants
playground" at the Quiver Tree forest, was
interesting. |

The true traveler is he who goes
on foot, and even then, he sits down a lot of the time
