TIMEOUT - Previous Outings |
|
25th February
2010
|
|
Our
first stop today was
Welbedacht. Tiaan Burger
welcomed us - they had tea and coffee available
but of the 35 ladies present, only a handful
opted for this. The balance drifted over
to the wine tasting counter. Their range
of wines with labels "Meerkat" and "Cricket
Pitch" had the tills ringing. |
|
Jenny, Molly, Les and Nomvelo had
a good time catching up about 'old times' in
Zimbabwe. Les and Nomvelo could also share
their stories about London, both being out in
Cape Town on holiday. |
|
|
Tiaan was an impeccable host
making sure everyone could taste their special
wine. June opted for a good 'ol cuppa
tea'. |
|
|
New friendships are always forged on these
days out. Chrissie and Joan
enjoyed chatting over their tastings.
A group photo of all the ladies chatting and
catching up with the dam in the background. |
|
|
Our next stop was
Bakenhof - I dub it a
"Dallas-look-alike' guest house right here on
our doorstep in Wellington. You drive up
this long driveway past all the vineyards and
then you see it - this regal looking guest house
where they have 5 guest rooms all impeccably
furnished. Everyone agreed that the
honeymoon suite was their favourite and would
definitely 'surprise' their partners with a
weekend away "soon"!! |
|
Heidi
is a very gracious hostess and made sure
everyone was happy on her estate. Ingrid
enjoyed chatting to her over a glass of wine.
Annie, Ann, Gillie and Jenny were
very relaxed drinking a class of Rosé before
lunch. |
|
|
Some of the more energetic ladies headed down to
the vines and could pick the most amazing export
grapes - "These grapes are so big and delicious
- they crack with freshness when you take a
bite" |
|
|
"I have to take this big bunch home to
Barbi" said Mel. The
view of the garden from the honeymoon
suite is so peaceful and beckons you to
come again. |
|
|
Joy and Bridget share a
joke outside the honeymoon suite. Could
it be the item on the table outside the
suite that has caused the merriment? |
|
|
The tables were decked out for our group with
stunning overlays and fresh roses from
Bakenhof''s garden. Wayne
(our coach driver) manages to keep Ann and
Brenda amused over lunch. |
|
|
|
Lunch is over and our trusty steed awaits to
transport us home with our spoils. No shopping
today but we all enjoyed a restful day. By
the time the coach reached the first drop-off
point it smelled very much like a 'winery' -
perhaps it was the grapes already fermenting -
or the wine we had bought - or consumed! |
|
"And so in the words of Chrissie
"Lovely, just my kinda day and great to see my
friends again" |
