BETTY'S BAY

Talk about mad dogs & Englishmen! Thirty five of us braved the "on - off" rain across the peninsula and headed out through Strand, Gordon's Bay, Rooi Els, and Pringle Bay, to Betty's Bay for the day. We skirted the rain, saw some whales en route and arrived in sunshine!

The group was split into two; half doing a quick visit to the penguin colony whilst the other half stopped in at Gaboli Chocolates for a lesson in Chocolate making.

The groups then did a turn around to ensure that everyone visited both establishments..

Gaspard the Chocolatier, took time to explain the art of Belgian Chocolate making, from his home kitchen. Everyone experienced the tastes of the various products and were able to buy items from his stock. Trade was brisk.

Ingrid was caught paying attention to Gaspard's explanation, or was she looking at the myriad of delicious chocolates in front of her?

Lunch was booked at The Tides restaurant, where we occupied all available seats and enjoyed large soles with shrimp & mushroom sauce, chips and vegetables. Those not partial to fish chose a well portioned steak. Both meals were well presented and tasty.

We have read good reports about Johan, chef and owner of The Tides, on the Trip Advisor website and will certainly be adding our congratulations as well.

Great to have a few male guests with us today. Jenny you can bring Mervyn with you again anytime! (Not only on his birthday). Pat & Ann were first time visitors and we look forward to seeing them on future outings.

Whilst we completed our meal the heavens opened and released rain in torrents.
The rain didn't let up and we had to board the coach with the help of a few umbrellas, resulting in a some passengers returning home with wet feet.
(A small price to pay for  great day out and an excellent meal).
