Barton Villas &
Gabriëlskloof |
|
|
We head out on the N2, with our first stop being in the
Kogel Valley on the
road to Hermanus.
I had discovered
Barton Farm which
was has
Tuscan villas with views of mountains,
olive
groves, vineyards and lavender
fields.
These houses are beautifully
appointed with modern décor,
fireplaces, large open-plan
living areas, private pools and
gardens visited by
Guinea
fowl, Blue Cranes and Peacocks.
The farm produces its own wines,
olive oil and face creams from
their French lavender bushes.
We will enjoy a guided tour of
this exclusive accommodation.

The ladies were excited
to see these beautiful
villas. They all
have stunning views and
would be the perfect
place to spend a few
days in the company of
family or good friends. |
|
|
Chrissie,
ever keen to pose was
sorry she didn't bring
her swimming costume.
She said she would have
loved a swim!
Hilda & Cheryl
were seen admiring
the art in the lounge. |
|
|
Ann & Jenny were
caught trying to hide behind the
hibiscus. Jenny,
Sandy & Joy decided
drinking straight from the vats
was something they had never
done before. Wine just
somehow didn't taste quite the
same as from a bottle. |
|
|
Theresa & Laura went home with seed pods from
the Barton Farm Cape
Honeysuckle bushes.
"This is how you
propagate them!" Laura
tells Theresa.
Brenda had
purchased unique
chocolates @ her local
Spar which caused many a
laugh. Speak to
Brenda for more
information! |

|
Gabrielskloof is a
new winery situated between
Botriver and Caledon a mere 500m
off the N2 highway, offering the
visitor a spectacular cellar
experience with their first
release wines, restaurant and
deli with 360 degree Overberg
views. They also offer home grown olive
oils, and wholesome local
country fare. |
|
|
This restaurant, owned by two chefs,
Juan vd Westhuizen and
Frans Groenewald,
provides menus based on
the fresh seasonal
produce of the Overberg.
They add their own style
to create varied and
interesting dishes,
offering something
special for everyone. An
added touch was the
special table
reservation labels
printed
especially for us! Little touches mean everything...... |
|
|
Colleen & Gill
two very good friends
enjoyed their time over
lunch together.
Laura & Dennis
celebrated their
49th wedding
anniversary
with us - we all wish
them many more happy
years together! |
|
|
Main course was a lamb
tower - layers of lamb
with vegetables atop a
very tasty mash.
Crème Brule was a superb
touch to end off lunch.
In fact, a few of the
ladies said they had
enjoyed it so much, they
could have asked for
seconds. |
|
|
Ingrid has
solved her 'bad hair'
days with a wig she
purchased before coming
on the coach trip.
Peregrines is always a
favorite place to stock
up and here Erika,
Dawn & Hilda
carry their purchases
back to the coach.
A loaf of bread
purchased in the country
always tastes far better
than what we can buy in
the city. |
|
"Another glorious Time-Out day comes to an
end and we head back home, arms
laden with goodies to tide us over 'til next
month. |
