COUNTRY MEANDER
Part One

|
Day 3: Sunday 27th November -
Botrivier / Elgin |
Standing in line for the toilet at the
Shuntin' Shed
caused much hilarity. |
|
|
The rain continued overnight and resulted in
some innovative rain wear being produced.
There was a gap in the downpour after
breakfast and we were able to load the
luggage into the trailer without being
soaked. We were on our way to Botriver by
10h15. |
|
|
The Shuntin'
Shed is a unique
restaurant on the platform at the
Botrivier station. Authentic coach seats
and memorabilia of a bygone era adorn
the interior. |
|
|
On the
other side of the tracks is a unique little shop
opened by an enterprising lady, looking to earn
a living. We had met her on our recent recce and
told her we would return with a group. She was
"gob smacked" when everyone crammed into the
little shop. She commented that she had never
had so many customers at one time! |
|
Then
it was time for a "cuppa" or something stronger
before heading on to Elgin where we had arranged
a light lunch. |
|
The Old Mac Daddy
trailer park is located on a high vantage point
in Elgin, with American streamlined "caravans"
positioned together with conventional buildings
housing either a lounge or kitchen. Great
holidays for a young family. |
|
Our lunch, having been pre-arranged, should have
allowed us a short stop before heading home.
This was not to be as some confusion in the
kitchen resulted in us having to wait an hour
and a half for our meals. We have addressed this
with the management who offered a number of
excuses, but did offer an apology. |
|
Our driver Johan was banished to the "naughty
corner" but was later absolved of all charges
when he helped offload Mel's chair at her home. |
|
|
The happy participants of the tour - what a
jovial bunch!
We are sorry that Jenny couldn't join us due to
illness.
We look forward to Part 2 of the Meander in 2012 |
