CAPE
COUNTRY MEANDER
Part One
25th-27th November '11
Day 1: Friday 25th November.
Destination Villiersdorp
Pre-dinner drinks being enjoyed in the Posthouse Country Hotel
Bar on Friday evening.
Johan collected the Tableview passengers in
the 21-seater coach and headed for the N1
quick stop to meet two combi's which had
collected the Southern Suburbs passengers.
After a quick comfort break and purchase of
coffee, we were soon on our way. Fresh
sandwiches made by Gillie & Marie were soon
offered around.
First stop in Villiersdorp was at the
Dale Elliott studios
where we had arranged for Dale & Mel to tell the
group about the various art courses they offer.
(Seeing we had some budding artists in our
group). Janny (Dales wife) had laid on tea for
us, which was enjoyed by all.
Dale offered some tips and Mel produced an
artwork from scratch, showing the various steps.
An exhilarating presentation. A few of us who
were less interested in art, visited the local
tractor museum down the road.
Leaving the Elliott's, we headed for Aphrodisiac
Shack, a well known smoke house. The owner Sean
had laid out a number of tables under the oaks
for us to relax and have lunch.
The pre-arranged lunch consisted of a
salmon mousse starter; a main course
comprising of a salad with a choice of
smoked meat of fish, followed by a
cheese and fruit platter. Great start to
our meander! Many of us bought product
from the deli as well. But you may ask
who is the
Chinese woman on the right?
This is actually Mel hamming it up with
a placemat on her head and fingers
pulling her eyes to make them look
slanted!
We arrived at the
Posthouse in
Greyton mid afternoon for our two night
stay. There was much enthusiasm on
checking in, at the quality of the rooms
and the colourful garden.
The hotel pub was our meeting place for
pre-dinner drinks. Views from inside and
from outside looking in. The pub is
renowned for being the venue for the
making of the "Bell's whiskey ad,
currently being aired on national TV.
See video below.
Dinner in the hotel restaurant was well
presented and tasty. The staff were
attentive and everyone was relaxed after
a busy day on the road.
