DAY 3:Same
again...5.30
am wake-up call. A quick piece of toast,
coffee and maybe yoghurt and you are raring to
go on the early morning game drive!
On the road again. There is nothing finer than
being out on that vehicle early in the morning -
the birds sound clearer, and of course, even a
little dung beetle got 'up close and personal'
on Werner's kit bag!
Our first stop this morning was the Tree Tops
camp for a cup of coffee. This is a superb
camp where the accommodation has tented
sides, and you get from room to room along
wooden walkways - we all said very suited to
honeymoon couples! Very private and
intimate.
Brenda is always very excited to show her
wonderful photographs to everyone.
Especially the 'close encounters with Gaaitjie'.
However, Brenda froze when he came up so close -
so we have no actual proof. Barbi catching
the sun whilst enjoying her favorite pastime.
Back for breakfast or do you call it
brunch - a full plate of bacon, sausage,
sweetcorn fritters, sauteed potatoes and
a fritatta egg combination.
Absolutely delicious and definitely not
diet food.
Then for a swim, a rest and tea at 3.30
pm, before the afternoon game drive.
Joseph who works at Lalibela said we all
had to try their delicious lemon cake -
and it was indeed very delicious.
The other vehicle had trainee game
rangers and we joked that they had a
definite advantage to our Werner.
Mind you, Werner has such keen eyes, he
missed very little, and had a wealth of
knowledge.
On our late game drive an icy wind came
up. Lalibela had provided us with
blankets, and as you can see Maureen
learnt the technique of keeping warm
very quickly.
We came very close to these rhinos -
mind you they had no interest in us -
they were too busy eating their evening
meal when we approached.
On daily
drives, the game rangers are always on
the look-out for animals who might need
medical attention. This male lion
had a swollen paw, and so he was darted
and taken to the quarantine section.
The 'other' vehicle with some of our
party were very fortunate to be able to
go right into the enclosure and be
photographed with this very sleepy lion!
Brenda said her grandson would never
believe what she was able to do!
Before dinner another highlight of
Lalibela is evening entertainment.
They provide a lovely fire, blankets to
keep you warm and when the entertainers
arrived the tempo changed. Yes, I
know Maureen and Margot look very tired
but when the beat started so did the
foot stomping!
The Marimba music these guys make is so
entertaining. Many of us got up
and danced with them
(Start the
video). Nothing
better than letting your hair down under
the African sky!
Dinner waited for us and wow what a
spread! Mel, Emma and Barbi posed
happily - Emma had been such a superb
game ranger that all the ladies in her
vehicle felt a special bond with her
after the tour. In fact on our
last night, Emma and a colleague spent
an hour or two after dinner at the
fireplace - great fun was had by all.
