Day 1

An air of anticipation is present as we head out to our first stop in Port Elizabeth

Having booked for this trip earlier in the year, we were disappointed to learn that the train portion had "come off the rails". We were to travel to Port Elizabeth by Premier Classe train and return by air.  A dispute by PRASA saw the Premier Classe being suspended, which ultimately left us with no option but to fly both ways!  We hoped that all would be resolved before our trip so we decided to leave the final decision until the last possible moment. Unfortunately, two weeks before "D-day" we had to confirm our flights. We were stressed, but through all of this the Lalibela staff came out tops in handling the crisis.

DAY 1:  Destination: Port Elizabeth
They say "things happen in threes!"
Problem 2: In arranging our shuttle pick-ups we always provide a comprehensive schedule with times, names and order of collection. This trip was no different. Constantia had 7 collections, starting at 07h30. The wheels came off shortly after the first pick-up when the driver headed straight for the airport with one passenger! Multiple calls between us and Hylton Ross resulted in another vehicle being dispatched to assist.
Problem 3: Our flight was delayed by an hour (perhaps a blessing). Other passengers were able to rest while we "stressed," and chatted in anticipation.

Our home for the first night was the Courtyard Hotel on the beach-front. This hotel is in a superb position - close enough to have your early morning walk, and within a close walk to the Boardwalk.  They even operate a shuttle to the Casino on demand!

The Boardwalk in PE is located next to the Courtyard hotel and this was where we all headed for our first meal on tour.  After lunch we walked around the centre doing a small amount of shopping,

Dinner was at 34 Degrees South at the Boardwalk. Definitely not as nice as the Knysna outlet and the service was slow.  Considering that the restaurant was not even full, there seemed no excuse for the bad service!
