16th - 18th September '11

Day 2: Saturday 17th Continued

We headed back to De Kelders for some "me time" while Brian prepared the braai at Whale Waters Lodge for the early evening. The house was so well positioned to get maximum benefit from the sunsets and the facilities were ideal to host the group for dinner.

Jenny, Ruth and Heather took opportunity to share a joke about being SO cool but thank goodness for the warmth of friends (and a blanket).  Wayne downloaded from his PC whilst Gillie also kept warm with her jacket over her knees.

People always find chatting around the braai fascinating - Carol W, Brian and Susan catch up on the day.  The table was set by a few willing hands and looked good waiting for the guests to arrive!

When called to the table, everyone huddled over the food and the braaied meat was delicious - and hey Carol "What did you put on these sarmies - they're so tasty".  The inevitable chatter and laughter was fantastic around the table.

Day 3: Sunday 18th. Destination Grootbos Nature Reserve & Homeward bound

"All good things have to come to an end" - but the best was yet to come.  Brunch at Forest Lodge in the Grootbos Nature reserve is something to experience!

A cold buffet with fresh fruit, cereals, croissants, muffins, cold meats and what was so very popular - the smoked salmon,  was fantastic.  Of the 12 of us, 10 chose EGGS BENEDICT - and we were not sorry.  The sauce was so very tasty - most people were seen licking their plates clean!

This simple yet striking display greeted patrons on entering the reception area of Forest Lodge.

We found it difficult to leave Grootbos, but we needed to press on as we had decided to take the Kleinmond road home. Our stop at Hermanus was disappointing as the weather had deteriorated and not one whale was present in the bay, a sharp contrast to our first day in the area. The weather didn't improve and we entered Kleinmond in pouring rain. This resulted in a brief coffee stop before returning to the road with our destination being the airport holding bay to meet the shuttle kombi which was to assist in our homeward transport. Fortunately the rain abated and we were able to transfer the passengers & luggage without being drenched.

The only reason why we ask other people how their weekend was is so we can tell them about our own fabulous 3 day weekends.  (with photos)
