TRAVELTIME - Special Report

SOETES EN SOP
Breedekloof
24th July 2010

The Annual Soetes en Sop in the Breedekloof Valley is a superb way to spend a cold winters day!  You "meander" from Estate to Estate. They offer delicious soups coupled with their sweet wines.  The Slanghoek Estate had their famous Biltong and Blue Cheese soup and with their Creme de Chenin 2009 added (which has attracted double gold at the San Francisco International Wine Competition),  meant we all 'lingered a bit longer'

We started our day at Badsberg where they had two soups on offer - a mushroom and port soup (made with their Vintage Port 2005) and a bacon and potato soup - wonderful for those of us who had not had chance to have much breakfast before we left the city.

Next stop was Jasons Hill where Butternut soup was on offer.  By now the cool day had turned into a stunning warm winter's day and everyone enjoyed the sun outside for a while before we went onto our next stop.  Yvonne and Brigitte deep in discussion whilst Carol seems to find something amusing.

Brian decided to offer Trish a ride on his broom - she's still contemplating whether to take him up on his offer!  The views from the newly built patio outside Slanghoek make this a very special spot.

Opstal Wine Estate is always a very special spot to visit and their Hanepoort Sweet Wine made Magda and Erika sit and relax enjoying each others company. (Note the empty glasses!).

The Botha Estate was our second last stop and here they had delicious chicken soup filled with vegetables, roosterkoek with mince or cheese &  jam, coffee and pannekoek and, of course, their wines - 10% discount on dessert wines meant that many bottles were carried back to the coach.  Yvonne and Cheryl both 'first-timers' enjoyed sitting in the sun and chatting.
Five little dickie birds sitting a the wall...Brigitte, Heather, Maureen, Joy and Carol decided that "LIFE IS GOOD - WHO WANTS TO GO HOME AFTER A DAY LIKE THIS!!"  Our last stop at Du Toits Kloof Estate was a good finale to our special day out of the city!

Here the ladies are standing patiently waiting to be served at Du Toits Kloof Estate.  Why is that whenever we arrive at an estate we seem to have to WAIT?   But hey when they are 16 enthusiastic tasters - patience should be the essence of the day! Margot decided to patiently sit and take a breather  on the bumper of the coach!
Living in the Cape is wonderful.
Each outing provides it's own magic.
Whether it be the ambience at the venues,
or the glow of the friendship
extended throughout the day.
