Hundreds of millions of people,
businesses and governments
around the world unite each year
to support the largest
environmental event in history –
Earth Hour.
More than 7,000 cities and towns
in 152 countries and territories
switched off their lights for
Earth Hour 2012, sending a
powerful message for action to
save the planet. This year, more
than 200,000 individuals
accepting
"I Will If You Will"
challenges on YouTube to turn
their symbolic action for the
planet into an ongoing
commitment to a sustainable
future. We became intrigued to
read that one of the places
where EARTH HOUR is celebrated
in Stanford in the Overberg
area.
"The
Village Green is the place to
meet. The grounds are dotted
with friends and families on
their picnic blankets enjoying
the delicious foods and
something to quench the thirst.
The anticipation of the sounding
bells from the local church,
marking the moment of Earth
Hour, is in the air.
When the lights go off, the
Green is suddenly plunged into
magnificent galaxies, star light
and milky ways. Come and enjoy
nature in all it's glory in a
safe and peaceful environment. It
is a moment not to be missed, a
memorable day with a perfect
ending. The local restaurants
and pubs in High Street all join
in the festive atmosphere by
hosting great Jazz bands".
Join us on this special
tour to support EARTH HOUR in
2013. A full program of
activities in Stanford will be
available towards the end of
January.
