MIDLANDS
MEANDER 11th
to 16th April 2010
Day 2: Monday 12th
DAY 2:
Start The Meander in Earnest
-this photo was taken by Brian on an
early morning walk! What an awesome deck
they have overlooking the river! Brian
did serious 'spider' spotting on his walk.
Thank goodness all he found were the webs
and the spiders didn't bother him!
The white
spots on the grass are hundreds of spider
webs. A couple of close-ups on the right
shows the intricacy achieved. Little
droplets of dew look like beads on the
strands. Totally fascinating.
Carol arrives for breakfast - whilst Dawn, Lyn and Gillie start the
morning off with a smile. Not hard to
smile say Barbi and Linda - "Life
is good"
The
breakfast buffet was to die for - always
different - and the choice on the breakfast menu
was a difficult one to make. Di and
Anette very happy to be sharing the
first meal of the day together.
The Megacoach vehicle all lined up
waiting for us to start our day with
driver Cami at the helm. Our first
stop was
Tsonga Shoes and bags -
what an exciting stop to do first thing
on a Monday morning.
Mel is all smiles -
"Should I buy these or not?" Ann
and Jenny were debating what
handbag to buy whilst June
seemed to have found just what she
wanted - " The color is perfect - not
too sure about price though"
"Wow plastic money makes life easy" said
Lyn, card in hand at the
till. Heather and Susan also excited about their purchases.
Ruth was delighted about
her purchases - a fabulous bag, belt and
even a necklace made out of leather -
ALL TO MATCH! "Why don't they make
men's shoes to fit" asks Brian!!
Ubuhle Beads was a
disappointment - several calls to
confirm our visit and still they were
not open when we arrived!
Aladdin's-de-light
was a treasure trove! "Wow
they have lovely bargains here"
The lady at the till was most surprised
because three week's prior to our visit
a group of Cape Town tour operators had
visited and here were a group of Cape
Town visitors!! "Gosh things MOVE
FAST in Cape Town" (No connection with
our trip though....we just got in
first!)
Annette & Gillie
chat away
during our lunch break at
The
Living Bean. A
super find. Our next stop was
Ardmore Ceramics
- and what a delight that the owner Fèe Halsted-Berning
(freshly in from her daily horse ride)
was in the shop to tell us all about how
she started the business. What a
treat and her personal tour even better!
In the workshop the skill and attention
to detail that these artists give to
their work is amazing. They all
have infinite patience and the quality
of their work is world class. Evidence
of this was the tourists who arrived
before us and gladly selected Ardmore
pieces and had these shipped home!
Dinner at St. Ives
- a super restaurant -
perhaps better suited to day meals - the
views over the dam are so pleasant - time to
chat and catch up with everyone - a 3 course
'pensioner' meal had everyone satisfied -
time to get home (Granny Mouse) and go to
bed!
