MIDLANDS MEANDER
11th to 16th April 2010
Day 1: Sunday 11th

DAY 1:  Destination: Granny Mouse's Country House
An early morning start for most of us. Shuttle pick-up started at 06:00.  The Constantia group had time for a cup of coffee before the Tableview group arrived at the airport.  Soon we had all checked in and the excitement mounted.  The Two Barnes' ladies were thrilled when, on boarding, were told they had been 'upgraded" to business class - no packaged sandwich for them - a plated meal made them smile!

"Great excitement, a week with nothing to do" was the tone set whilst waiting for the plane - and of course on arrival getting your luggage and loading it on the coach is even more exciting!  Dawn and Linda unload their cases from the trolley to make sure they didn't get left behind..
Mega Coach chose to give us their biggest vehicle.....perhaps in their eyes - an upgrade - but we knew this vehicle was not suited to the Midlands!  We asked for a 32-seater which would have allowed us easy access into all the destinations. There were a few issues with the coach size and we had to reschedule a few visits. First stop was at Il Postino for delicious pizzas and then Granny Mouse and their wonderful gardens were a welcoming sight.

The Granny Mouse Country House is an awesome place - their reception rooms are so comforting and welcoming.  You can easily find a little nook and cranny to relax and put your feet up.

The bar downstairs proved a good retreat every evening to us all.  Time to talk about the day and catch up with fellow travelers.  Their downstairs wine cellar is stocked so well and next time we go there we will arrange a dinner in the cellar - wonderful wines paired with their absolutely delicious cuisine would make for a fabulous evening.

Gillie, Barbi and Ann gather with their refreshments before dinner.  The fish on the menu on Sunday night at Granny Mouse was so very delicious, and when it came time for the chocolate dessert, Dawn felt perhaps she should have refused it!  "How can I do justice to this" she said.

"One's destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things"
