SCHOONGEZICHT & THE LIBRARY
Thursday 26th February '09

On Thursday 26th February the day dawned clear and hot.  The first phone call made was to Pietman, the head gardener at Schoongezicht to find out what conditions were like in the garden.  It was reported to be an absolutely stunning day – misty and set to be HOT!

We were given a brief background of how this awesome garden came to be established, and then invited to walk around and enjoy the peace and solitude!

The fish in the koi pond looked extremely happy and well fed – even though one of the ladies was concerned about large birds hovering above!  Dawn, came well dressed with a ‘designer-hat’!

What appeared to be a good ‘find’ in the garden was the labyrinth and many of us chose to ‘walk the labyrinth’ and had very positive feelings after doing this! (Others chose to just sit it out).
Very soon it became time to leave the solitude of the garden and head into Stellenbosch.  There have been severe fires in the area, and by now, the smoke was thick in the mountains surrounding the town.

We browsed several shops in Stellenbosch before settling into the courtyard of The Library  our lunchtime restaurant, located in a very stylish square filled with décor shops and an art gallery.  The restaurant is owned by Constant Visser and his very beautiful Minki (vd Westhuizen) who happened to be celebrating her birthday with friends for lunch.
Not to be outdone the Time Out ladies very quickly called Constant over to get a cuddle from him!

We had Suzelle Fourie of the Tygerberger over for lunch and she invited Minki to have her photograph taken with some of us.
It proved to be a very hot day and thank goodness, we were seated in the courtyard where at least a cool breeze was blowing!
