PATERNOSTER
2009
Thursday 29th January '09
This was the day
We all headed down Paternoster way
All 59 of us caused a sensation in the
little town
And made everyone, seeing two coaches with
ladies, frown!
|
A new record
for a day out TWO coaches – not
always the ideal situation – but then
Paternoster is obviously a very favourite
place in the Western Cape for many to visit.
We had a 13-seater coach from Constantia,
and our regular 48-seater coach set out from Tableview.
Great excitement at the thought of spending
a day having ‘time out’ to ourselves is
always the order of the day. Perfect
weather complimented our plans. First stop
was the West Coast Farm Stall and amazing
what I saw many ladies bringing out of this
shop – little cacti (perfect for my hot
corner!) – a loaf of farm bread (now I need
the jam with it) and even a bottle of
Wellington’s Sweet Chili Sauce.
All too soon we headed into Paternoster with an amazing
mist blowing in from the sea – what happened
to our ‘perfect weather’. |
|
|
Dion of the Far-Out Guest Lodge had
his buggy ready to transport those who
wanted a ride of ‘a different kind’ around
Paternoster. |
|
|
The ladies loved this ride especially Theresa and Patricia
who enjoyed a very informative ride
around the Paternoster settlement area –
Dion is a wealth of knowledge!
Meanwhile another 25 of our group used
the 13-seater coach as a shuttle to
visit the Columbine Nature Reserve
Lighthouse.
What an absolute pity that the
lighthouse was ‘closed for maintenance’
– after pre-planning our trip with the
lighthouse manager this was a huge
disappointment. I have taken this up with the National
Ports Authority.
Not deterred,
Hilda Bruwer chose to do a bit of
rock-clambering!
Ann and June spent their
time sunning themselves on the bench
beneath the lighthouse. Cecelia
reported she had seen amazing birds, and
after having just finished a birding
course in the L’Agulhas Nature Reserve
she was delighted she could identify
many of them.
Meanwhile the others found their
favourite passion – time consuming! |
|
|
Barbi loved the patchwork mural, Kay found
‘just the right pair of slacks’ and Theresa
found the most wonderful rug for her home. |
|
Wilfrid from Belgium made himself at home in the bar
with Erika and Denise – the Paternoster
Bar is wonderful to experience. Pity our day
went so fast that there was not enough time to
go back to hear more stories about the lingerie
on the ceiling. Must return for a weekend.
Meanwhile Trish, Barbi and Mel enjoyed
their beers outside the hotel in the sun,
catching up on each others’ lives! |
|
All too soon it was time to go to lunch – The Noisy
Oyster and their unique outdoor restaurant
was the idea place in Paternoster for lunch. Colleen and Gill enjoyed
their time sharing a bottle of wine before
lunch. |
|
|
Dennis looks after Laura, Bridget and Theresa and
makes sure they get enough wine to
drink. Heather and Yvonne catch up
– after all it’s a while since they last
saw each other – and boy oh boy what a
lot of talking they had to do! |
|
|
Under the tree one gets shade – and Dot and Jenny
take full advantage of this in the heat
of the day.
Denise, Sandy, Caroline and Joy
are friends and enjoy sitting together
at lunch – wonderful time to catch up
and share information. |
|
|
Maureen and her sister in law, Ann from
Ireland had a great time catching up
with each other.
What a perfectly happy photo – Ann,
Jenny and Yvonne toast life and
happiness |
|
|
Ronnie had time while waiting for his lunch to chat
up the ladies. Maureen and Ann
loved talking to him.
Chrissie – always such a happy
person – decides to act all demure with
a sunflower in her mouth – hey, Chrissie
– normally this is done with a rose! |
|
|
Erika gives the thumbs-up to our lunch –
Kabeljou caught off the shores
of Paternoster just that morning. It
was certainly worth the wait –
absolutely delicious. |
|
Wonder who this is coming to the ladies restroom…appears
it’s TWO ladies who might just have a
little bit too much too much wine – or
to be kind to them, perhaps they just
enjoy each other’s company! |
|
Then all too soon our day was coming to an end – and it was
decided to have 10 minutes on the beach
before our drive back to the city. What
a fitting way to end the day. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
What an absolutely perfect day –
away from the stresses and strains
that we all have to deal with on a daily basis.
Time Out is A Special Way to Meet
New Friends
Explore New Horizons – and Enrich Yourself. |
|
Chrissie took TIME OUT to draw this on the
beach…
