Time Out took over
Weskusplek today. A few of
the ladies were dressed in
'naval' colors, and 'looked the
part' in this photograph near
the lagoon. Pity they
didn't get time to use their
fishing nets!
Jacobsbaai is a small
seaside village on the
West Coast, still
unspoiled with mostly
dirt roads, no shopping
centers or amenities.
While Jacobsbaai offers
a complete escape from
the hustle and bustle of
the city, it is close
enough to Vredenburg on
the one side and
Saldanha on the other,
to provide easy and
quick access to big town
facilities.
A visit to Weskusplek
with its picturesque
restaurant and quaint
gift shop , Wille Magrietjie,
offers a unique
experience for any city
dweller to rest and
reflect!
The resident artist,
Denis Hilton Lees
displayed his work and
told us how he came to
live in Jacobsbaai.
I had always pronounced
it as the Afrikaans JAKOBSBAAI,
but as Denis said the
word has a "C" in it and
is definitely pronounced
JACOBSBAAI.
Chrissie
and Heather gathered
their fill at the local
farm stall.
We had three Jenny's on tour
with us today. Two of them
took a fancy to these ducks,
whilst the third Jenny
encouraged Theresa to buy the
little number she has in front
of her.
The restaurant at Weskusplek has a homely feel to it.
Their staff are very
courteous, and extremely
efficient with their
service. Ann,
Elizabeth and Hilda are
always very willing to
smile for the camera.
Maureen, Heather, Ingrid and
Marie enjoyed sitting together,
whilst Joan was so happy she had
a friend with her today. (Rita
and Joan do exercise classes
together!)
The
Weskusplek Restaurant
is in an ideal position
on the lagoon, whilst
the gift shop has the
same view. Lovely
to shop and stare out at
the water! What
everyone liked about
Jacobsbaai is that they
seem to be keeping to
the same architectural
standards - no multi
storey buildings - just
that Mediterranean feel
about it - it was
overheard
"Hey I feel like Shirley
Valentine here"
