BO KAAP
BIESMIELLAH RESTAURANT & GREENPOINT STADIUM
Thursday 18th June '09

Our day started off cool but by the time we got to Maidens Cove the weather had turned into a perfect warm winters' day - how lucky we are to live in the beautiful Western Cape!

Maidens Cove is a super stop near Camps Bay and when the ladies discovered they could 'shop' as well it was even more popular.  A superb DVD on South Africa was quickly purchased.

We met our tour guide, Shireen outside the Atlas Trading Store - she took us behind-the-scenes and let us smell the spices and added value to our purchases of what must be the best 'spice' shop in Cape Town.

We then did a very informative walk-about of the Bo-Kaap, the most photographed area  with many film crews applying to do work here.

Down the stairs and we entered a wonderful little alcove filled with history of the years of the Bo-Kaap.  Shireen gave us all such a sense of the community life in Bo-Kaap and told us of how they all care for each other in times of need.  Perhaps other neighborhoods should introduce their principles.

The colourful houses really catch your eye, and are so neat and tidy.

Lunch at the Biesmiellah Restaurant was a fiery affaire - but with Shireen on hand to help the ladies with tips on how to 'cool' your mouth after eating curry, the meal was made more enjoyable.

We rounded off our day with a tour of the new Soccer Stadium in Green Point - what an efficient welcome we all got - the young girl (actually with an acting background) was so enthusiastic - it rubbed off on a person and made us all proud of what our city is getting for 2010.

It was a bit disappointing that we couldn't go into the stadium, but they were in the process of installing the roof and it was considered unsafe to have visitors on site at that time. We were shown a video on the development and what the area would look like in 2010, plus a 30 minute perspective of the past was presented by an actor posing as "a cleaner". Fortunately we were able to climb a few flights of stairs and get an overview of the project from the viewing platform.

All a person has in life are friends and family.
If you lose these you have nothing.
Friends are to be treasured more than anything in the world!
