Die Rooi Granaat
Yzerfontein- West Coast |
Yzerfontein,
a tranquil seaside village 85 km north
of Cape Town off the R27, is a haven not
only for birdlife, wildlife, sea life
and indigenous flora, but also for
artists, who are drawn by the town’s
peaceful beauty. Natural attractions
here include the incomparably beautiful
16 Mile Beach, the Bokbaaivygie flower
trail with its explosion of colour in
springtime, and the Schaapeiland Trail
along the coast, with its astonishing
views over the Atlantic Ocean and
occasional sightings of whales. |

SUN, SEA AND FYNBOS |
We started 2014 with unusually high temperatures (coupled
with HIGH humidity) something unheard of
in Cape Town! Our first trip (in
February) is to Hopefield (set to be a
HOT day) ; March will see the Time Out
Ladies Club heading to the hills of Bot
River.
Then I heard the rumblings of “Let’s go
to the Sea Carol” and it got me
thinking……..I have heard of a new
restaurant in the seaside village of
Yzerfontein called
Die Rooi
Granaat. Of course, I
always go to Trip Advisor and this is
what I came up with……. |

“Best Restaurant in Western
Cape”
"This little gem is situated in Yzerfontein, I was very
VERY impressed with the food,
service, wine, decor. The chef
is constantly looking to produce
fine dishes, so different to the
run of the mill of your usual
restaurant - that one just needs
to return time and again to
sample each and every dish on
the menu. Marais(waiter/owner)
made us feel right at home with
his great service and knowledge
about wine and food, we even
drank a bottle of wine with him
till 23:30 after the restaurant
closed. I would love to go back
there tomorrow!!!!! This is the
Best restaurant in the Western
Cape!!"
I then spoke to the owners of
this little ‘gem’ and they have
agreed to open the restaurant
especially for the Time Out
Ladies Club on Thursday 24th
April. So come along and enjoy
one of the last ‘summer’ days on
the West Coast– the weather
always changes at the end of
April.
More details will be published in the April newsletter,
once I’ve been able to visit the
restaurant and see what other
things interest me in
