Sharland East-Urquhart
Bishopscourt

In the June 2011 issue of Garden and Home I read of Sharland East-Urquhart who lives in Bishopscourt.  She is passionate, dedicated and has an unconventional taste for adventure and a love of life.  She has agreed to open her garden and offer us tea and cake today.

Sharland and her husband, Gavin moved into their Cape Home 10 years ago. She had never worked on a garden of this scale, but had a very clear idea of what she wanted: the design should have a sense of formality, but with softness to the plantings within the outlines.

Aside from the stunning garden Sharland has an art studio at her home which will be very interesting for those who love to view art as well! Sharland East Urquhart is an artist fuelled by the great loves of her life, gardening and fly-fishing.  We are in for a treat today - on a recent visit to the garden we were overcome by the sheer beauty of it,  Don't miss out today - Sharland will conduct a personal tour and tell us how she re-designed the garden and opened up the views.  You will feel like you are in paradise!  A fabulous way to spend the last Thursday in November (before you get hectic with Christmas shopping).

Lunch will be at the Lookout Deck overlooking the Hout Bay Harbour. Traveltime was here in December last year and enjoyed it. We initially planned to go to the Wharfside Grill at Mariners Wharf  but after a few adverse comments about the Grill we decided to rather go to the Lookout Deck.

Having succumbed to the ambiance, friendship and food we will take our leave of this picturesque bay, but before we head back to Constantia we will  stop at a unique business in Hout Bay, T- Bag Designs.  Here the local community has got involved in re-cycling tea bags and doing terrific art product with them!  (A fabulous place to pick up a few Christmas gifts)
