I have found a very exclusive
and luxurious 4* Guesthouse
outside Wellington where we will
spend our day today –
Bakenhof Guesthouse!
The
natural surrounds and
countryside provide an
energizing environment where I
know we will all come away
feeling relaxed and invigorated!
On a recent visit Brian & I
were warmly welcomed by the
owner Heidi, who took time to
show us around the venue,
highlighting the very acceptable
surroundings and facilities.
“Rix at the Creek” does
the Catering – and
in her words – her food is
Tasty, Flavoursome, Fresh and
creative but never over
complicated. Country food with a
dash of cuisine. |

To give you a bit of
background of the
Estate:-
The Estate comprises of
155 hectares, of which
currently 80 hectare are
planted to Table Grapes
of 12 different
cultivars. A Further 15
hectare vineyards are
planted to white
(Chardonnay, Chenin
Blanc , Viognier) and
red (Shiraz) cultivars.
The table grape
vineyards range from 1
to approximately 25
years in age and are all
watered with a
computerized irrigation
system. The total
harvest for 2010 is
expected to be +/- 1350
tons - 80% of the
harvest has export
quality and is exported
to the UK, Netherlands,
Germany and other
markets in Europe. |

On arrival at Bakenhof
Heidi has suggested that
we take a tractor ride
(those who wish to do
so) through their
vineyards. Otherwise
you may just sit back
and relax and take in
the wonderful views from
this Estate.
I am hoping that we will
be able to buy some of
their table grapes
before we leave to come
back to the city! (I
will arrange this
beforehand). |

I have also arranged a ‘garden visit’
to Welbedacht –
the wine estate where
Schalk Burger Senior
followed his dream in
2003 to make his own
wine! We will do this on
the way to Bakenhof.
Cost for
the day will is R340
(Guests R360)
Coach will leave
Constantia Village at 09h00
and Tableview
Shopping Centre 09h30. (Provisional)
