NAPIER PATAT FESTIVAL
17th-19th June '11 |
Day 3 |
|
Bakers dozen? |
We took leave of our
accommodation on Sunday morning and headed for
the Napier Farm Stall for breakfast. It
was a hive of activity at 09h00. The
demonstration in The Barn was part of your breakfast so this
proved to be an added attraction. |
|
|
Most of us ordered the "Black Pan"
breakfast of egg, sausage, tomato - all
prepared and served in individual little pans.
A more than sufficient way to start the
day. |
|
|
Sitting in the Napier Farm Stall one
gets a cozy feeling - the tables are
very close to each other. The chairs are
mismatched, but the overall feeling of
being @ home in someone's kitchen is
great and comforting. |
|
|
The Barn behind the Napier farm Stall is
where a French baker operates the
Bonjour Patisserie and he started his
demonstration with apple tarts,
croissants and delicious cinnamon buns. |
|
|
What a lovely warm way to sit and idle
away an hour. The French baker and
his wife were very hospitable and
allowed us to taste their croissants and
cinnamon buns. He made everything
look so easy - the rolling of the
croissant was done speedily.
However, when he called for volunteers
no-one was keen - a bit daunting to do
this in front of others! He also didn't
offer to give us the dough recipe
(secret of the successful bake). |
|
|
We had planned to have a light
lunch at
Dassiesfontein, but
after our breakfast and "baking
snacks" we decided to carry on
to the Houw Hoek Farm Stall
in
Elgin, after a bit of retail
therapy. Our brief stop allowed
us to freshen up, have a bowl of
soup and be back on the road
again to allow us to return home
before sunset. A superb way to
spend a long weekend in winter -
most were heard to say "We feel
like we've been away for a week
- we've done so much" |
|
|
Favourite people,
favourite places,
Favourite memories of
the past,
These are the joys of a
lifetime.
These are the things
that last.
Thank you for sharing
