We had such fun exploring Napier
and looking for scarecrows. (When we entered
Caledon on the road home, Carol found herself
still looking in vain for them!) They
added such atmosphere to Napier. The one on the
right with the red scarf had such beautiful
lingerie - wow, wonder where she bought
it?
Our first stop on Saturday morning was
at Renessance for breakfast, prior to
following the crowds to the High School
for the days planned events.
We always find it so great at these
times away to get to know each other
better! Brian found some company
outside and thought he would not be
noticed if he sat very still, holding
this straw...."I can have a chill-out
day" he said
Then it was up to the local High School
to join the festivities. There was a
vintage car display which had the same
model Anglia as Brian bought for R1200
(new) in the early 60's. A clown
entertained the kids, whilst other
visitors were cheering the runners
finishing the marathon.
There were many stalls to browse and
hungry kids to feed. Carol saw this
group staring at the cup cakes and
promptly offered to buy one for each of
them.
We sat at the finish line to
watch the last of the runners
come in from either their 5km or
10km race. Annette and Mel
appear to be saying
"Hallelujah". (Actually they
were hitting a balloon to a
child!)
The Nappy dash for under
3's proved a hit - the
little ones were so
eager to race - no gun
to start them off!
Just an "On-your-marks
get-set-go" and off they
ran to their parents (or
some of the parents were
seen running with them)
Having decided to watch the
street parade in the main
street, we headed in to town and
managed to secure a table a
table on the pavement at
Gunners
so we could watch the parade.
Brian thought his new friend was
better company as he was the
only male on tour! At
least he didn't talk back!
The street parade was an added
attraction and we watched in awe
as the drum majorettes came down
Main Road so proud to be there.
Miss Napier was also there - not
in a swimsuit but still
gorgeous. She was accompanied by
her two princesses.
At 5.00 pm we went to
the local micro brewery
for a tour. We were told
how they came to make
beer in Napier and also
got to taste the husks,
and smell the additives.
By the time "our tour"
was over there were so
many people around the
bar that we decided not
to do any tasting, which
was a pity.
Dinner at PascallsCountry Kitchen
was a treat. Stephan is at front
of house whilst Mark is in the kitchen
supervising the delicious food that is
prepared in their restaurant.
Their ox tail was sublime! The
cassata with a tot of sangria also
delicious - they make everything
themselves - an excellent restaurant to
visit in Napier!
