Days 3 & 4

Blommenberg Guest House is a remarkable oasis - so very efficiently run.  Joan and Eric the best hosts in Clanwilliam - they always make us so welcome.

Ashley was dubbed our 'professional photographer' - wow she must have an amazing collection of photos.  Betty was keen to have her photo taken with the friendliest hostess of The 1897 Nedersetting Guest house where we had the most delicious custard cake, milk tart and fabulous coffee.

I called for someone to roll in the daisies - and Heather very quickly obliged!  There was a film shoot on the Matjiesfontein farm where a Navy Blue Rolls Royce was being photographed amongst the yellow daisies.

Trixie found a delightful piece of wood on the Matjiesfontein farm - perfect for my rock garden she said!  The ladies who run Matjiesfontein are 'salt of the earth' people - here the lady in the pink hat was eager to be included in our picture!

Matjiesfontein Farm is a place difficult to explain - good wholesome South African Food in an almost rural atmosphere.  We had a choice of Tomato Bredie, Bobotie or Curry Afval.  June was the only lady brave enough to eat the Curry Afval - she said it was delicious.  Betty's bobotie was also delicious.  Quite different from the restaurants that one normally frequents - but quite delightful!  Homemade ginger beer was the 'drink of the day'.

The waterfall outside Nieuwoudtville is a must-see in the area........we arrived on a gusty, windy day - sand blowing up a storm.

Strassberger's in Clanwilliam is always a good place to shop - Heather at least now has a new pair of summer shoes.  Trixie found a lovely orange daisy to place behind her ear.   Life is good!

Our trip ended on a high note in the Riebeek Valley - Brian joined us for lunch and Betty was delighted when he walked into the Garden Bleu shop and surprised her.

Café Felix provided the best atmosphere for our last lunch together - their Mediterranean courtyard is just the most special place to gather.  The food was decadent as well and the hours we were there
just flew by.  The comment was made that the food is sometimes the best part of the trips - you can argue with this!  I know that the trips are good for my soul - friendship, caring and comforting - is how I prefer to sum them up!
A flower's appeal is in its contradictions,
so delicate in form yet strong in fragrance,
so small in size yet big in beauty,
so short in life yet long on effect.
