Day 7: Wednesday 4th July: Destination
Plettenberg Bay |
Today we bid farewell to Grahamstown
and the Festival. We head home via
Plettenberg Bay where we will spend
the night. The day was bitterly
cold, with the promise of rain. Our
stay in Grahamstown had been
perfectly planned, weatherwise. |
|
|
|
We stopped at
Nanaga Farm Stall for breakfast
and to wish Lyn a happy birthday. We asked
for Champagne (with orange juice) but were
told that the bar only opened at 11am. |
|
After a pleasant trip we arrived in
Plettenberg Bay mid afternoon and checked
into our accommodation at
Whalesong Hydro.
The view from the hotel over the beach was
spectacular. |
|
We had reserved dinner at
Emily Moon
and by the time we left our hotel, rain had
set in making it a bit difficult to get into
the restaurant without getting a bit wet!
Because of the change of weather,
unfortunately, Brian's Bronchitis
seemed to return! He wasn't the only
one coughing spluttering - perhaps we can
blame the "Grahamstown" bug that everyone
was talking about when we were there! |
|
As is customary on Traveltime tours, those
who wished to do so contributed towards a
gift for our driver (Johan) and we thought
it appropriate to offer the thanks of
everyone for his help in getting us around.
Lizann surprised us by offering the groups
thanks to Carol & I for a successful tour. A
signed book (A Literary Guide to the Eastern
Cape) was gratefully accepted as a memento. |
Day 8: Thursday 5th July: Destination Cape
Town |
|
The group outside Whalesong Hydro in
Plettenberg Bay on the morning of our
departure |
|
Our trip was going according to plan when
the vehicle unexpectedly shut down just
outside George. Inspection showed that the
diesel fuel line had a problem and the
onboard computer had shut the engine down.
The Hylton Ross back-up service was
initiated and within 15 minutes we had a
diesel mechanic on site as well as another
vehicle to transport us back into George to
have a coffee break whilst the problem was
being attended to. |
|
Even though the action to resolve the
problem was prompt and effective, we were
delayed by an hour and a half, which saw us
arriving back in Cape Town (airport holding
bay) just on sunset. Hylton Ross kombi's
were waiting to transport all passengers
back to their homes. "Fond farewells -
until the next time" they seem to be saying
to each other! |
We always look forward to travelling with
friends;
New travelers become friends during the
journey;
Friends sharing experiences become lifelong
companions;
What is life without experiencing new
places?;
What is life without friends?
Here's to more friendship & Fun.
Thank you all for sharing the National Arts
Festival with us |
