SOWETO TOUR - HALF DAY

Soweto, acronym for South Western Township is a unique melting pot of cultures of the Rainbow Nation. This vibrant suburb is home to more than 2 million people. They rise above the challenges of daily life in over-crowded and squalid conditions living in their shacks and informal structures. Their creativity and positive attitude is exhilarating! Two Nobel Peace Prize Winners have lived here you will be in awe that so much can be achieved against all odds.

Our tour takes us to the Hector Pieterson Museum where we learn about the tragic events of the Soweto uprisings which led to the death of a 12 year old There is time to visit Mandela House (own account) and Regina Mundi Church where banned political parties held secret underground meetings. African music pulsates through the lively street markets and locals communicate in many different languages.

We pass ‘The Calabash’ on our return journey. Soccer City is the largest stadium in Africa and played host to the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final. It is a heart-warming end to an amazing tour to see this symbol of progress, and hope of a brighter future for all!
