Cape Point |
|
|
We follow the coastal route which hugs
the dramatic cliff side along the
Atlantic Ocean, before being welcomed by
the sentinel upon arrival in Hout Bay.
We drive through the picturesque fishing
village and continue onto Chapman’s Peak
Drive (if open) with its spectacular
scenery. On one side of the road the
mountain rises over 200 meters to the
sky, and on the other side it drops
dramatically into the ocean.
At Cape Point we drive through the
nature reserve and admire the endemic
‘fynbos’ and we may even spot wild
animals like Zebra, ostrich, antelope or
even snakes! You can walk up the steep
pathway or ride in the Flying Dutchman
funicular (own account) to the
lighthouse where panoramic views await
of the meeting place of the icy Atlantic
and warm Indian Oceans. Sir Francis
Drake said it was the fairest Cape he
saw in the whole circumference of the
Globe!
Our return takes us along the Indian
Ocean coast to Boulders Beach where we
visit the Jackass penguin colony (own
account). You’ll capture wonderful
photos of these cute creatures before
continuing through the picturesque naval
base of Simonstown on our route back to
your hotel. |
