Saturday 2nd May was our day to
visit the Festival.
Day dawned a bit cool, rainy and damp.
Hats, scarves and even gloves were the order
of the day. |

|
What a merry bunch descended on
Kloovenburg - the first stop this year.
In fact, it's become a good stop as then
you can walk 'downhill' to the rest of
the festivities in the Valley.
Here Chrissie tells Sandy
what bread is best to buy. After
all - this is Chrissie's THIRD olive
festival and Sandy's first. |
|
Brian stocked up on the
most delicious ham, cheese and tomato
roll! The Olive Festival is such
fun with everyone taking to the streets,
eating olives, tasting wine and
generally catching up with friends.
Businesses take advantage of the crowds
and offer good discounts as well. |
|
|
This young girl offered beautiful bracelets with
a complimentary sherry - perhaps a
complimentary sherry with every bracelet would
have been a better offer. These two ladies
found the pavement the 'best place' to eat their
muffins. |
|
What about a delicious cup of coffee served straight out of
the boot of a car - very ingenious. I was
also pleased to see a favorite of Time Out -
Goedgedacht with new products - a full
range of flavored vinegars - pineapple,
cranberry, lime, lemon. Which should I choose?! |
|
|
|
Tasting and buying cheese, and the week's
vegetables at a farmers market - all in a day's fun at the Olive Festival. |
|
|
How enterprising these two young girls are - selling hot
chocolate (obviously for their pocket) and olive
trees (for Dad's pocket). Perhaps they would
have had more sales if they did a bit of
advertising! Marie & Heather
carrying the shopping with Ronnie gesticulating
in the background! |
|
|
Cafe Felix - always
a favourite and wow, what
a main course they produced! |
|
|
This little bird was SO frustrated - he
could see his reflection in the glass
and was sure it was another bird -
imagine his frustration! He spent
the day clamoring to find 'his friend'.
Heather and Ronnie found a
lovely spot in the afternoon sun to
enjoy lovely music just before we left
the magic valley. The three ladies on
the right are Dutch tourists who took
"time out" to come with us and enjoy the
Festival. |
|
|
"Hoza Lapa" - Our trusty chariot had to
park SO far away this year. We decided
to call Wayne (the driver)
and tell him we would wait on the
pavement at the top of the hill, rather
than walk down to him. |
|
|
"Some gals have style" - here
Sandy arranged for a
porter to bring her wine all the way up
the hill on a trolley - whilst "other
gals lack style" - thumbing a lift back
to the city! |
|
|
A "2010 Calendar Guys" calendar was making the
rounds on the coach and here Joy
& Trish discuss the various
photos - you can almost hear Trish say
"Hey Joy, look at this one" - whilst
Carol admires the chef who
served her and Brian lunch - what a
novel way to present a calendar.
Brought a glint to her eye - for sure! |
|
This is
what caused all the commotion. For
an enlarged view (excuse the pun),
click on the calendar. |
At the end of the day everyone agreed, what a super day it
was - very relaxing - lovely food to
taste - some good wine and most of all
the company of wonderful friends.
Life just does not get much better than
this. |
