Namutoni to Windhoek

DAY 7:  Destination: Windhoek
Whilst the train and tracks were falling apart around us, this trio ensured that the meals coming out of the minute kitchen were always of the highest standard. Top marks go to you guys. Well done!

Carol decided that she wanted a photo of the blooming bushes on the side of the track, to use as an image to enhance her artistic skills.
The train stopped at Omaruru to allow 4 passengers to disembark and meet a shuttle which had been arranged to transport them back to Windhoek to ensure they were in time for their flights. Just as well that we decided to stay an extra night "just in case".

We arrived back in Windhoek just after 6pm and after collecting our baggage and bidding farewell to our hosts and fellow passengers we boarded our waiting shuttle and headed for Windhoek Country Club & Spa, our scheduled overnight stop. On arrival Shirley was heard to say " I thought I had died and gone to heaven" (to have such a luxurious room and bath, just for her own use!).

The buffet dinner was probably the best we have had (anywhere).  The choice was just so great that you really couldn't do justice to it all.

Marie & Ronnie, Shirley and Dawn settle into enjoy a relaxed meal on our final night in Namibia. Where to next year Carol?

The night time view from the lawn in front of the pool. Brian's starter and all at our table relaxing after freshening up.
DAY 8:

Destination: Cape Town
Our shuttle from  Elweirda Namibia collected us promptly at 07h30 to ensure we avoided the morning rush and arrived timeously for our return flight. Check-in was a breeze and we were soon browsing the shops for that last minute gift, or to find a companion to share a quick smoke with.

It is always great to come home, particularly if your home is in Cape Town. The Hylton Ross shuttles were waiting for us and were soon loaded up with passengers, luggage and memories and heading in two directions: Northern & Southern suburbs. Tomorrow we are back to the reality of life and of course to begin planning our 2011 destinations.
Thank you one and all for the companionship, laughter and fun we experienced over the last 8 days. The problems we experienced on the train are being addressed and we will provide feedback if and when this is received.
It is always disconcerting when all aspects of our arranged tours are not under our complete control. We trade on the motto of good planning and efficiency and it is an embarrassment to us when we encounter poor service in contracted facilities, as was the case with the Desert Express. Our expectations far outweighed what was actually delivered.
MAY THERE BE MANY MORE "FRIENDSHIP & FUN" TRIPS IN OUR LIFETIMES.

If you reject the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion and avoid the people, you better stay at home."
