Okaukuejo to Halali

DAY 5:  Destination: Halali
The toilet tango? With the number of people visiting Etosha why do they have so few toilets away from the camps? "If I have to wait any longer I am going off into the bushes!" was the general consensus.

Today we started breakfast at 7am and an hour later we were on the road again, to seek out waterholes on our 80km trip to Halali. Zebras certainly seem to be in the majority in the park., but it is always a bonus to see the Oryx (Gemsbok)..
We came across this group of giraffes near the entrance to Halali. The restaurant complex with its  huge verandah was a welcome sight in the heat of the day.

Having arrived earlier than expected, our rooms were not ready, so we relaxed and waited for lunch, which comprised salads, prawns and cold meat. The usual Oryx steaks with vegetables were also available. Dessert was on offer for those who wanting something sweet.

The keys were still not available for all rooms by the scheduled game drive time (2.30pm), but we were able to place our bags in the room and enjoy the drive. We were a bit skeptical of venturing out in the heat of the day, but the open vehicle proved to be quite cool. The rhino was a welcome sight as were the elephants with their young.

We were lucky to come across three lionesses trying to force elephants away from the waterhole. The elephants would have none of it and the the cats eventually gave up and found a shady spot to rest until the elephants moved on. The sun slowly found the horizon and we had to return to camp.

Brian decided to stay in the camp and sit at the waterhole, which was very well situated. There wasn't much activity and so, with the thought of an afternoon nap, Brian returned to camp.

Halali accommodation was comfortable and clean. The restaurant is spacious and the meals very good. As with Okaukuejo, Halali had an excellent camping ground which was well utilised.

"Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter."
