Day 6
Tuesday 31st Halali to Namutoni
DAY 6:
Destination:
Namutoni
The group in all its glory at Namutoni!
Happy to be together and looking forward to
the return trip to Windhoek?
Today
we head back to the train which is parked
somewhere near Oshivelo. We will exit at
Namutoni gate. Ian & Marion all packed and ready
to go. We encountered some red Hartebeest just
outside the camp, and a group of impala a bit
further on.
What
is everyone looking at? This lone giraffe
spreads it's legs to get some refreshment. Our
arrival in Namutoni resulted in the normal rush
for the loos.
Time to have a beer and browse the
shops! This beautiful flower adorned the
trees in the courtyard. The exit gate
loomed as we headed for the train which
was apparently half an hour up the road.
The staff were ready and waiting for us
on arrival.
Our luggage was taken from the bus to
our compartment and we immediately
tucked in to a lunch of fish & chips
with salad. Very welcoming! As was usual
we migrated from the lunch table to the
lounge. Some of us decided to take
a nap. Others weren't that fortunate.
The air conditioning in the dining car
and in Kokerboom decided to pack up
around lunch time. The train was stopped
to determine the cause and a temporary
"fix" was done. The necessary spares
were not on board and Johanna promised
that this would be fixed once we stopped
for the night at Otjiwarongo. Shirley
wedged her "steps" into the doorway to
try and get some air circulating.
The Durbanites pre-warned us all that they
would be hosting a concert in the lounge
after dinner. The best seats were quickly
taken up, drinks were ordered and there was
an air of expectation. Carol had rallied
"The Grannies Club" to present songs of
their own.
Brian started off with a construction joke
to set the tone and then the floor was
handed over to the "Grannies".

A
fitting end to our last night on the train.
They say "laughter is the best medicine" and
tonight we proved it. Thanks to everyone
who practiced.
The night had flown by without us noticing.
As we prepared for bed the train pulled into
Otjiwarongo for the night. Around
11.30pm I received confirmation that the
air-conditioning had been attended to.
