ELGIN OPEN GARDENS
Saturday 1st November '08

Our coach had hardly left Tableview and Anna and Olivia started on their packed lunches………a first for the coach trips – “Breakfast on the Go”
After doing our pick-up at Constantia Village shopping centre, 16 very excited ladies reached Peregrine Farm Stall where their new Farmers Market was in full swing.
Elizabeth wasted no time in ordering what was later judged “The Best Pancake She Had Ever Tasted”

This farmers market is in such a lovely setting – lovely fresh vegetables, flowers, fish, chicken, home baked quiches, cup cakes – in fact – a product list that goes on and on.
Such a friendly young guy – one of the stall holders wasted no time in telling us this market is open every Saturday until the end of January 2009 – definitely a place to return to before Christmas to stock up on things for the pantry.
For once I was able to photograph Brenda – without her camera in her hand!

Yvonne thrilled with her purchase of a giant protea, what a treat to take home!
Our first garden, Fresh Woods – the home of Peter and Barbara Knox-Shaw an absolute treat – especially the shadier parts of their garden – a wonderful place to ‘hide-out’ in the heat of February! Even the bees are so content in this paradise garden.

Lorraine Farm, the home of Mike and Gay Prevost is an organically managed garden set on a certified organic farm, was our next stop.
Our coach was a large 44 seater which proved a problem with a few of the farms – but a long walk ‘downhill’ must result in a long walk ‘uphill’ again!

I bet there were more than a few stiff calf muscles after this trek.
Cellina is happy to have made it to the top of the hill.
By now everyone felt the need to sit and relax over lunch – Duncans Roses was a perfect place to stop.
Their welcoming water feature was absolutely beautiful and had such a heady fragrant perfume coming from it.
Oh that we could have the luxury of filling our water features with such perfect blooms!

Here the ladies wait eagerly for their lunch prepared by Liz Wood.

Our last garden for the afternoon was Dennegeur – home to Josias and Antoinette Beukes – who welcomed us into their downstairs room where delicious coffee and fresh scones with cream and preserves were served. What a perfect way to end an awesome day.

The views from their home are magnificent, such an absolute treat to have spent the day in the splendour of the Elgin Valley.
Definitely Food For The Soul.
