SPRING FLOWERS 12
27th -31st August 12

Day 2: Tuesday 28th August - The view from Piekenierskloof Pass

We head for Nieuwoudtville today, a trip of 350km over the breathtaking Piekenierskloof Pass, with a stop in Clanwilliam for their Flower Show, and lunch and then continue on the road through Vanrynsdorp before reaching our destination.

The wild flower show in the Dutch Reformed Church is always a spectacle and Marie was delighted to have her photo taken with this unusual backdrop.

I was personally delighted to see the large groups of school children who visited the exhibition of flowers.  The younger you learn to appreciate nature , the better!  Our lunch stop was at Nancy's Tearoom in Clanwilliam.

The Swiss Villa Guest House & Ixias Bed & Breakfast were our homes for the next 4 nights.

The lounge at Swiss Villa is so relaxing and a wonderful time to discuss the day with fellow travelers.  It was Marie's birthday and her candles which never seemed to blow out made for a happy time around the table!

Day 3: Wednesday 29th August - Papkuilsfontein Guest Farm

Papkuilsfontein Guest Farm is a treat - in their restaurant they have several hats displayed - just begging for a hat parade!  Of course, we obliged!

It is always good to meet old friends - and Willem is becoming a 'friend' after our second private tour on the farm.  A delightful 2 hours was spent in two vehicles.

If you are tall, the Land Rover is not always the most comfortable ride as Carol proved.  Ian seemed very happy as are Dawn and Joy.

The fields of flowers are fabulous and the Bulbinella a beautiful shade of yellow.

Marie and Frances took a stroll to view the waterfall.  Thankfully they did not attempt the entire walk which is quite steep in places.

And they say women talk a lot!! Ian and Bobby make up for it at the waterfall stop.  Here Henk helps Willem couple the Land Rover up to a small Mazda which rode along the farm roads and got stuck in a low river bed.
