Day 2: Saturday 23rd March - In &
around Stanford |
After a decadent breakfast of Eggs Benedict
with all the trimmings the group
'hit-Stanford". There were 2 markets
to browse - the general consensus was that
the 'shopping' was poor at these markets so
Mel, Carol and Barbi decided to make
themselves look even prettier with Stolen
Flowers from neighboring gardens! |
|
|
The Blue Gum Trees at the Country Lodge
where we stayed are magnificent .A view of
the gardens from the dining room. |
|
We discovered this man who grows vegetables on
his farm outside Stanford - Woolies beware!
Such fantastic quality and what competitive
prices.Face painting was the order of the day
and a few of the ladies were tempted to have
their faces painted as well! |
|
Our group outside the Raka wine estate
where we had a very good wine tasting! |
|
|
|
The owner's wife presented their wines and we
all thoroughly enjoyed conversing with her.
Here Brian tried to use
"Brute Force" to keep his favourite Merlot wine
to himself. It was after all a magnum. |
|
Klein River Cheese, 7kms outside Stanford, was
our chosen lunch venue Baskets had been
pre-ordered and it was not long before everyone
was tucking in. Cool weather makes you so
hungry! |
|
A tasty picnic lunch with a glass of good
wine/or beer complete with good company - what
more can you ask for?? |
|
|
Before our dinner we took a stroll around the
evening market on the Village Green.
Anything from food- to-go plus Rotary promoting
Consol lights, and new cooking methods made for
an interesting market. |
|
|
Our chosen restaurant was The Stanford Table
recently opened by Marian (ex Johannesburg) and
her partner are wowing patrons with delicious
food. |
|
Earth Hour was celebrated in Stanford
from 8.30 - 9.30 pm. Individual
businesses switched off their lights and
a festive atmosphere prevailed over
dinner! |
