      WHAT IS THE SPICE ROUTE?

Centuries ago a desire to explore exotic flavours and experiences would have meant waiting for the     seasonal return of the traders waging the Spice Route. Today you can set off on your own journey of discovery when visiting the aptly named Spice Route in Paarl. The Spice Route destination offers a sensory journey for the modern-day explorer with a love for authenticity and craftsmanship. Here the discoveries are endless, so relax and enjoy the journey.

Spice Route lends an experience that is completely unique to the wine and hospitality industry. Spice Route is a collaboration of artisans that showcase their produce, and share their knowledge with the public and each other.

42 Ladies wanting Time Out in their lives, explored the Spice Route on Thursday 26th September. We visited Fairview initially for some cheese and wine 'gathering'! On arrival at the Spice Route 30 ladies visited DV Chocolates for an in depth look at the history of chocolate and after our hour of tasting, we all felt like experts in the art of chocolate tasting.  There was the Cape Brewing Company to explore as well as Wilderer's Distillery where the ladies could taste Grappa.  Of course, there is also the fabulous Red Hot Glass Studio where the most exquisite pieces can be seen.

Lunch was at the Spice Route Restaurant and the menu they offered us was an excellent choice for ladies - a light chicken stir fry with soba noodles and vegetables.  Dessert was fresh fruit with little meringues - just very special! By 3.00 pm most ladies were not that keen to board the coach to make their way back home through heavy traffic.  All-in-all a fabulously relaxing day spent with friends enjoying the countryside!
