WEST COAST NATIONAL PARK Postberg Flower Reserve Saturday 19th August 2023
Traveltime took a relatively small group into the WCNP on Saturday 19th August. The day arrived and we had 2 cancellations, but our Quantum vehicle still went to Constantia village shopping centre and the Tableview library and collected our 5 people eager to view the Spring flowers. Everyone is talking about how wonderful the flower season is this year of 2023 – the Western Cape has had exceptional rains and intermittent rains to keep the flower season going longer!
We were thrilled to showcase our West Coast National Park to Amanda who is visiting her mom from Australia. She ‘loved’ the extraordinary flowers – and is going home with SO many photos.
We always stop for a coffee at Tsaarbankwhere the sea views are outstanding – this is done before we head into Postberg.
Flowers are always at their best when the sun is shining; temperature must be over 18 degrees with no wind! Conditions for us were near perfect – we just did not have 18 degrees as the Western Cape is chilly.
We were treated to ‘fields and fields’ of flowers all turning to the sun after all the rain – and it is always exciting to share this with others.
Cameras were clicking & one fabulous thing about being ‘flower children’ is that you share your love of nature so easily with others. Everyone chats to everyone about the splendour of the park. We ambled through the park, stopping once to get an overall view of the flower fields and then at one other spot where there are paths that one used to be able to walk along (just stay on the path!!) BUT this time the park officials came along and quickly told everyone to even get off the paths…. Sadly, this is hard to accept but they obviously have a method in their ‘madness’ as with 1000’s of visitors, if everyone goes off the path these wonderful blooms will very quickly get trampled.
The group had brought picnic lunches – this is far better than going to Geelbek Restaurant, which is out of Postberg and inundated with people looking for lunch!
Just after 15h00 we left the WCNP – all so very satisfied with our day with nature!
