REPORT: MYSTERY VENUE TOUR
29th February 2020
(Planned for 8th December 2019)
Our Mystery trip always takes place on a Sunday in December. The 2019 the trip had a few problems! Early December and Carol was in hospital recovering from surgery and it was decided to postpone the trip until Sunday 29th February (Leap year day).
It was fitting that 34 people headed out in a coach, unaware where they were going?!
It is always such fun to do this tour and keep everyone in suspense until the clues are revealed. Our first stop, The Jam Jar on the Uitkomst Farm along Simondium Road is always a great stop. Jill hand crafts delicious jams and she set up a ‘tasting table’ outside which is always a great idea before one purchases jams and get home and don’t like the taste of them! Most ladies came away laden with her delicious product.
Just a short hop away is the Boschendal Wine Estate. This estate now has much to offer – including coffee under fabulous oak trees; wine tasting; a deli par excellence; a butchery and so the short time spent there was done so profitably and sped by in a flash.
Our lunch stop was Leopards Leap –(a fitting venue for Leap Year day) a wine estate committed to the conservation of the magnificent Cape Mountain Leopard! The entrance to the Estate is graced by a magnificent sculpture of the Cape Leopard.
What can you expect at Leopards Leap – well, they have a Rotisserie-based lunch! This buffet meal is notably special. Today their speciality of Lamb (slow cooked on their state-of-the-art Rotisol spit) accompanied by a buffet of hot and cold vegetables and salads, was on offer.
Most of the items come from their extensive vegetable garden which makes for absolute freshness! Everyone returned to their table with laden plates!
We had added a competition to the day – guessing a few clues en route to Leopards Leap and great fun was had by all when the names of the winners were announced.
Lunch was completed with coffee and chocolate brownies – a perfect end to the day. It was such a lovely way to spend a Sunday – coupled with the fact that most people had not seen each other over the Festive period, and there was plenty of catching up to do! Carol and Brian managed to move around the various tables, and it was great to catch up with all.
Sadly, good things come to an end, and at just after 15h00 the Coach departed for Constantia, followed by a drop off in Tableview.
