Outing Report
If you GOOGLE “Kokomo” this is what comes up –
“Kokomo” is a song written by John Phillips, Scott McKenzie, Mike Love, and Terry Melcher and recorded by American rock band the Beach Boys. Its lyrics describe two lovers taking a trip to a relaxing place on an island off the Florida Keys.
What a fabulous tribute to this restaurant in Langebaan – on-the-beach with views forever – food to die for – outstanding service – just ‘has to be a success’
The year of 2017 is slowly winding down – my goodness the months have flown to bring us all to the end of November! When you are young you live from one-birthday to the next-birthday & from one-Christmas to another-Christmas to see what has been left under the Christmas tree for you. Today even the children are saying “Time is flying fast!”
Always when a year comes to an end we naturally reflect on what has gone past in the months gone by. None more so than the year 2017 – for some it’s been a traumatic year with health issues – some have had family issues to deal with – many Western Cape folk are worrying about the present water situation and the political issues South Africans have had to cope with over the year, have also brought their share of concern!
There is nothing better than to get on a coach with a bunch of happy people all headed out for the day. In Cape Town the South Easter had blown night and day for about 5 days – so this was reason enough to be happy that there was NO wind on Thursday 30th November.
On the outbound trip, we had a short stop at Vyge Vallei farmstall where many found plenty to spend their money on! Some just settled for a coffee and then we headed straight into Langebaan where an eager “pavement” salesman found many customers very anxious to purchase his lovely handbags @ R150 each. If he’d had more handbags, he would have made a killing!
We then all boarded the coach and Brian announced the winner of the Mystery tour on 10th December to be Heather Fisher………..Initially, Brian with his sense of humour said it was going to GRACE MUGABE! (Silence on the coach)!! Heather have a great complimentary day and enjoy the bottle of Amarula!
Kokomo then called us all for lunch! As the lyrics go…
Off the “Langebaan beach”, there’s a place called Kokomo
That’s where you want to go to get away from it all…
And get away from it all we certainly all did! A fabulous lunch from a choice of crumbed mushrooms (Oh Carol the portions are HUGE) or Bobotie Spring Rolls – Mains were a choice of Beer Battered Hake (once again a HUGE portion) or Grilled Hake OR 200g Sirloin served with Rustic Fries and pepper or mushroom sauce. Mother Christmas (aka Carol) arrived along with gifts for all – trinkets to hang on your Christmas Tree (not in your ears, Ingrid Hestermann!!) and some ‘soap on a rope’ (actually soap-in-a-cracker).
After the humongous lunch, many decided to stretch their legs and take a walk along the beach! “Just loved to feel the sand between my toes again” said Elaine! (No Elaine, nothing like Namibia!). A few ladies ordered Nacht Musik / Amarula Dom Pedro’s and one lady even managed to enjoy 2 Irish Coffees before we all headed back down to the coach to take us back to the city.
Bridget found 2 hungry dogs who she managed to feed on Jenny’s piece of “doggie bag” steak which she thought she was taking home with her ☹ (Looked like the owner of the 2 dogs would have preferred to have had the steak to eat himself!- or another bottle….he seemed to be rather inebriated!))
Arrival in Tableview was just before 16h30 and then the remainder of the group headed to Constantia – thankfully there is not much traffic with many of the schools having closed already for the end-of-the-year break!
A COMMENT FROM CYNTHIA FOR ALL TO SHARE!!!
What a lovely venue and the lunch was absolutely fantastic. I had the steak and it was one of the best steaks I have had in a long time, cooked to perfection. The starter portion was huge – don’t think anyone could complain.
Lovely get together. Such a lovely way to start with Christmas Celebrations.
A wonderful way to end our year – a day of fun and laughter and an excellent way to share the love that is developing with this special group of people!
