Our day started off with reports of protest action – but Hylton Ross had their finger-on-the-pulse and got us through to Gordons Bay by 11h00, avoiding the N2 and R300 where it was reported that the road had been closed.
We left Tableview at 08h45 and Constantia by about 09h45. On arrival in Gordons Bay everyone seemed anxious just to catch up and were not very keen to even venture to find a coffee / or do some shopping. After a short while coffee shops / book shops / the beach to dip your toes in / and generally enjoy the 45 minutes allotted to us!
Heather discovered the Book Shop and my goodness did she enjoy herself – so much so, that Brian needed to help her with the pile of books she bought to enjoy!
At 12h00 we all got back in the coach and headed out to the Grille Shack (a newly opened restaurant 5kms from Gordons Bay)
The Grille Shack is based on a 1950’s Pump Diner inspired restaurant with a “lekker” South African twist. The Grille Shack is the current Headline Act for Pit Stop being a multi-layered destination with several interesting sub-brands in various stages of development.
As a proudly South-African company they boost tourism, create employment, and actively promote Clarence Drive as the most scenic coastal drive in the world. Grille Shack has a midnight black exterior and takes centre stage.
Every dish is made from scratch with locally sourced produce, and their beverage selection is handpicked from local artisan brewers and wine makers to complement their menu.
“GRILLE SHACK SERVES JAUNTY FOOD WITH SASS”
Today being the 25th of March, is the actual day that Laura and Dennis got married 60 years ago. Jenny and Mike are celebrating their 50th Wedding anniversary on Saturday 27th March! Not only this but Sheila had a birthday on the 24th March. So many good wishes and cheers went up to the group of people with fabulous celebrations!
Our meal was delicious, and we were most impressed that they served each table individually meaning everyone got their meals together. Another **** for Grille Shack.
For Starters they served us Ciabatta and Salmon Pate or Avo Pate for those not partial to Salmon Pate!
For Mains they had 6 choices which included – Fish and Chips / Calamari and Chips / Chicken Waffle Burger / Babalas Burger / Double trouble Prego Roll or Chicken Salad
For Dessert we had a Decadent Chocolate Brownie with cream.
After the long lockdown everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day out – proof of this was that when it was time to get back on the coach, everyone was most reluctant to do so!
The best way to pay for a lovely moment is to enjoy it.
