Twenty five of us headed to Philadelphia – a total distance of 38 km from the centre of Cape Town. The Tableview people felt that they had hardly left their home and already we were at our destination.
Philadelphia has become a very popular place for Capetonians to choose as their home. It’s very close to Tableview (about 18kms) and also equi-distant from Durbanville. So even though there is not even an auto bank in town the people get-by and do what they have to do elsewhere.
In chatting to two ladies on my walk around town they said they LOVE coming home to Rural Philadelphia!! The traffic in Tableview and Durbanville gets to them! To me it was strange that no sooner had we arrived than one of the men of the town was seen guiding our coach driver to where the best spot would be to turn the vehicle and where to park in the shade!
We needed this space in the shade – with temperatures peaking over 30 degrees it became VERY hot near mid-day. We all wandered around town – many of the ladies congregated for a cool drink at the Peppertree coffee shop whilst others gathered!
At 11h30 we returned to our cool coach and headed to Epalazz, up the hill in the residential area. We received a very warm welcome from Sven – Uro was busy finishing our Anti Pasto platters! After a bit of actual confusion everyone found a seat – sometimes arrival at a restaurant is always a bit tense as most ladies prefer to sit with friends (understandably) and sometimes the available seating that is left doesn’t always work the way they want it to!!
Uro very soon called us to his buffet table where he had made Arranchini balls (Risotto balls stuffed with mozzarella and crumbed) ; Italian salami on handmade bread ; pancakes with cheese and figs – then we were served slices of decadent pizza ; the food just kept on coming! A delicious plated, warm salad followed by 4 cheese tortellini………..dessert was a panna cotta with decadent Spring berries! This was followed by a talk by Uro about his passion in life – cooking. He then told us how to make Dried Italian Herbs and Semi-Dried tomatoes.
Delicious filter coffee in quaint little cups finished our meal and it was then time to board the coach and head back to the city! What a fabulous day – the group was just the perfect size – it gave everyone time to chat and move around and spend time with each other.
