TIMEOUT - Previous Outings |
|
Thursday
28th July 2011 |
TIME OUT IS ELEVEN
Pierneef á La Motte
Franschhoek |
|
|
Rain
was forecast for the day, and true to
form it
did rain, but,
fortunately, everyone seemed to arrive
at the venue 'dry'. We always have
two coaches on this day, and amazingly
they arrived within a minute or two of
each other! Brian was on hand with
umbrellas to ferry everyone across the
short car park |
|
|
On a sunny day the
Pierneef
á
La Motte restaurant
can be opened up to the
elements by folding back
the glass doors to
reveal a patio and a
pleasant view of the
kitchen, showing the
chef and his staff in
action. Today everything
was closed to retain the
warmth offered by the
fireplace. The patio was
used for our welcome
drinks. |
|
|
The main feature of this
very elegant restaurant
is this 'chandelier'
made of crockery!
It is such a talking
point, and when a breeze
moves through the
restaurant it becomes
a wind chime
The restaurant pays
homage to Pierneef and
his art works are very
evident everywhere. |
|
|
"Sherry ma'm?"
Super to ward off
the cold wet day as we
arrived, and always a
good time to greet
everyone and admire the
smart outfits worn by
everyone.
Fascinators seemed to be
a fashionable accessory,
as displayed by Di &
Sally. |
|
|
"Gee Carol, can't believe it's
already 11 years that we've all
been together". Everyone
is always ready on these outings
to lift their glasses to a
toast. |
|
|
We were extremely lucky to have
36 prizes to hand out - thanks
to regular sponsors and several
of the ladies who donated hand
made gifts. The gift table
always looks enticing -
"Wonder if
I'll be lucky enough to get a
prize" was heard
amongst the ladies. |
|
A super photo of Sandy, Jenny
and Veronica just before the
speeches started. They
don't even have anything in
their glasses yet to toast the
photographer. |
|
|
The open plan kitchen
headed by
Chris Erasmus
is set just to
the side of the
restaurant. This
is a fabulous concept to
actually stand and see
the meal being prepared.
Most chefs seem to enjoy
the attention they get
from the clientele.
The suspended lights add
tremendous atmosphere to
this open plan kitchen. |
|
|
First up was Mel to
welcome everyone with
her usual finesse!
Mel has handled this
position for many years,
and she has become such
a pro at it.
Carol, very emotional,
after Mel's thanks,
takes the microphone and
'does her thing'. |
|
|
Our presentation starts
and Brian sits on the
floor to make sure he is
on hand to alter the
sound (if necessary).
One thing on this
anniversary lunch is
that everyone takes such
special care with their
appearance for the day.
