Fun In The City
Charley's Bakery, Monkeybiz,
Carrol Boyes & Pepenero
Head & shoulders above
us all, the car (coach)
guard outside Charley's
Bakery was sure to chase
any potential thieves
away! He was quite
willing to pose with the
ladies - the view of the
Mountain made us all
pleased to be
Capetonian's on a
Day-Out.
Charly's Bakery is an institution
in Cape Town and their
brightly painted
building lured us all
inside! In no time
at all the ladies were
'gathering'........what
a treat to see this shop
with all their delicious
cakes/pastries etc -
"Makes me feel like I'm
in Paris" someone said.
The staff at Charly's
are all dressed to match
the decor and were very
obliging to fill their
candy striped boxes with
treats for everyone.
Cake Boss you have got
competition!
Our next stop was
Monkeybiz in the Bo Kaap
area where Joan met us
and took us up to the
Board Room and showed us
a dvd which provided the
background to this
amazing business.
The beaded art works are
made by previously
disadvantaged women in
Cape Town and Monkeybiz
in turn exports the
majority of their work
all around the world.
What an amazing
initiative to help these
women sell their work
and provide for their
families. Molly
was thrilled with her
lion for her dining room
dresser and Brenda at
this stage could not
decide which animal
would look good in her
home.
We also spent a time in
the Carrol Boyes
showroom where we all
marveled at the awesome
work on display.
Ann and Hilda always to
happy to be with each
other on these tours,
whilst Cynthia and
Sheila, outside the
MonkeyBiz store compared
what they had bought.
Lunch was at Pepenero's in Mouille point. What a fantastic setting, overlooking the ocean. We even saw some dolphins frolicking in the surf.
All the ladies with "S" - Susan, Sheila and Susan ... quite amazing how they ended up sitting together! Maxi and her daughter Lizann happy to be away from their business having "TimeOut"
There
was still space after
lunch for ice cream.
Ingrid has her eyes
closed, wishing that the
one cone in her hand
would turn into two.
The fun we had in the City today is proof that you don't have to go far to experience what is going on in our beautiful city and to enjoy the good company and food.
"I cook with wine. Sometimes I even add it to the food".
